CPC Empower (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a digital mental health and wellbeing education brand and the digital program arm of CPC Clinics (Canadian Psychological and Counselling Clinics). We are based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and we provide self-paced video courses, eBooks, and interactive tools that help individuals, parents, couples, and families with everyday mental health, stress, and relationship challenges.

This Privacy Policy explains, in clear language, how we collect, use, share, and protect your personal information when you visit cpcempower.com, use our digital content, or interact with us online.

By using our website or purchasing and accessing CPC Empower programs, you are agreeing to the practices described in this Privacy Policy, as allowed by laws that apply to us, including Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). This Policy is meant for information only and is not legal advice.

Please note that CPC Empower provides digital education and tools, not direct counselling sessions on this website. Clinical psychology and counselling services are delivered by CPC Clinics under their own policies. If you are a CPC Clinics client, the way your clinical information is handled is explained in CPC Clinics’ own privacy policy and clinical forms.

Introduction and Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to:
  • People who visit cpcempower.com and related pages
  • People who buy or access CPC Empower digital programs such as courses, eBooks, or tools
  • People who contact us, subscribe to our newsletter, or interact with our social or email content that is connected to this website
It does not replace or change the privacy rules that apply to clinical care provided by CPC Clinics. Those follow their own privacy and consent documents.

If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, please do not use our website or provide us with your personal information.

What Personal Information We Collect

“Personal information” means information that can identify you directly or that can be linked to you as a person, such as your name or email address.

We collect information in a few main ways.

Information You Provide Directly

You may choose to give us information when you:
  • Fill out a contact form or email us, including your name, email address, and the content of your message
  • Create an account (if this feature is available) or register for a course, eBook, or other digital program
  • Enter information inside a learning platform or tool, for example reflections, notes, or responses, if those features exist
  • Ask for help from our support team
  • Share feedback through surveys, reviews, or testimonials
We ask that you avoid sharing very sensitive health details through general contact forms or email. If you need individual clinical help, it is better to contact CPC Clinics directly so that information can be handled under their clinical privacy framework.

Purchase and Billing Information

When you make a purchase, we collect the information required to process your order and provide access to your digital product. This may include:
  • Your name
  • Your email address, so we can send confirmations and access links
  • Your billing address, where required for payment
Payments are processed by third-party payment processors. They receive your payment card details and process the transaction securely. We do not store your full credit card number on our own servers.

Usage and Technical Information

When you visit our website, some information is collected automatically. This helps us understand how people use the site and how we can improve. This may include:
  • IP address and general location (for example, city or region)
  • Device type, operating system, and browser type
  • Pages you view, links you click, and time spent on different pages
  • The website or page that brought you to us
This information is usually collected through cookies and similar technologies. It is used in an aggregated way to help us see patterns and trends, not to track individual behaviour in a personal or invasive way.

Marketing and Communication Preferences

If you sign up for our newsletter or choose to receive updates, we collect information like:
  • Your email address
  • Your communication preferences
  • Basic interaction data such as whether emails are opened or links are clicked, as reported by our email service provider
This helps us send content that is more useful and avoid sending you messages you do not want.

Feedback, Surveys, and Testimonials

Sometimes we invite you to:
  • Complete surveys about your experience with a program
  • Give feedback so we can improve
  • Share a testimonial
You can always say no. If we want to use a testimonial that includes your name or other identifying details, we will ask for your clear permission first.

We use your personal information for purposes that are reasonable, that make sense in the context of our relationship, and that are allowed by law. In particular, we use your information to:

Maintain security and meet legal requirements

  • Help protect the website and our systems against misuse, fraud, or security problems
  • Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests from regulators or authorities when required
We do not use your information for unrelated purposes unless you consent or the law requires or permits us to do so.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device when you visit a website. Other technologies, such as pixels or tags, work in similar ways.

We use cookies and similar tools to:
  • Help the website function properly
  • Remember basic settings and preferences
  • Understand how visitors use the website, for example which pages are most visited
  • Improve performance and content over time
You can manage cookies through your browser settings. Your browser usually lets you delete cookies, block them, or receive a warning before they are stored. If you block or delete certain cookies, some features of the site may not work as expected.

Legal Basis and Consent

CPC Empower is based in Alberta and serves people in Canada and other countries. We handle personal information in line with privacy laws such as PIPA and PIPEDA, and with other laws that may apply depending on where you are located.

In simple terms, we rely on:
  • Your consent, for example when you fill in a form, subscribe to a newsletter, or choose to share information with us
  • The need to perform a service you request, for example processing your order and giving you access to a course or eBook
  • Our legitimate business interests, such as operating and improving our website and protecting our systems from misuse
  • Legal obligations, when we must keep or share certain information to comply with the law
If you are in a place where other rules apply, such as the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, your local law may give you additional rights and may label these grounds as “consent”, “contract”, “legitimate interests” or “legal obligation”. The practical effect is similar to what is described above.

You can withdraw your consent for optional uses, such as marketing emails, at any time. This will not affect information we have already used in a way that was lawful at the time.

When and How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information.

We may share personal information in the following situations:

With service providers and vendors

  • We work with companies that help us host the website, process payments, send emails, provide analytics, and offer customer support
  • These providers only receive the information they need to perform their role and are expected to protect it and use it only for the agreed purpose

Where required or permitted by law

  • We may share information to comply with a legal obligation or a lawful request
  • We may also share information when we believe it is necessary to protect our rights, our property, or the safety of our users or others
If CPC Empower is ever involved in a business transaction such as a merger or transfer of assets, personal information may be shared as part of that process, subject to appropriate confidentiality and applicable laws.

International Transfers

Some of our service providers and data storage systems may be located outside Alberta or Canada. This means your information may be processed in another province or country that has different privacy laws.

When we use service providers in other places, we take reasonable steps to choose reputable organizations and put protections in place, such as contracts, to help ensure that your personal information is handled in a way that is generally consistent with Canadian privacy expectations.

However, when information is stored or processed in another country, it may be accessible to courts, law enforcement, and authorities in that country according to their laws.

How We Protect Your Information

We take the protection of your information seriously. We use a mix of administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to reduce the risk of loss, misuse, or unauthorized access. For example, we:
  • Store information on systems that have security measures in place
  • Limit access to personal information to people who need it to do their job or provide services to you
  • Use secure login and access controls where appropriate
  • Work with service providers that use accepted security practices
  • Regularly review and update our approaches as technology and best practices evolve
Even with these steps, no method of storing or sending data can be guaranteed to be completely secure. We cannot promise absolute security, but we do our best to act reasonably and responsibly. You can also help by keeping your passwords private and letting us know if you believe your account or information has been compromised.

Retention of Personal Information

We keep personal information only for as long as it is reasonably needed to:
  • Provide you with the products and services you have requested
  • Support the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy
  • Meet legal and regulatory requirements
  • Resolve disputes and enforce our agreements
When we no longer need personal information, we will either securely delete it, anonymize it so that it no longer identifies you, or combine it with other information in a way that focuses on overall trends rather than individuals.

Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live and which privacy laws apply, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information. In many cases, you can:
  • Ask what personal information we hold about you and request a copy
  • Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete
  • Ask us, in some situations, to delete certain information or limit how we use it, as long as we are not required by law to keep it
  • Withdraw your consent for optional uses such as marketing emails
  • Change your communication preferences at any time
You can unsubscribe from marketing emails by using the link in our messages. You can also contact us if you want to review, update, or correct your information, or if you have questions about your rights.

In Canada, you may also have the option to raise concerns with the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if you feel your privacy rights have not been respected.

To exercise any of these rights or to ask a question, please contact us using the details in the “How to Contact Us” section below. We may ask you for information to confirm your identity before we act on your request.

Children and Youth

Our website and digital products are mainly intended for adults, parents, caregivers, and older youth who are using educational resources. We do not intentionally collect personal information directly from children under 16 without permission from a parent or legal guardian.

If you are a parent or guardian and you believe your child has provided personal information to us without your consent, please contact us. We will review the situation and, where appropriate, delete the information or take other steps that are consistent with applicable laws.

Third-Party Websites, Platforms, and Social Media

Our website may contain links to other websites and platforms. We may also have official social media pages on platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, or YouTube.

Those websites and platforms have their own privacy policies and practices. We are not responsible for how they collect, use, or protect information. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any external site or platform before you share personal information there.

Updates to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time if our practices change, if we add new features, or if legal requirements change.

When we update the Policy, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If we make significant changes, we may also provide a more prominent notice, for example on our website or by email, so that you are aware of the update.

We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy occasionally so you know how we are protecting and using your information.
